Yesterday Was an Interesting Day!

Yesterday we walked along the Cross Kirkland Corridor (CKC) and got on at the Railway Station. There right beside some old tracks and a signal is an amazingly hearty tree!

Also on yesterday I got two photos of a little one wearing the hats I made.  It was an unusually hot day, and she doesn't look very happy about modeling them, but it was nice to see them on her and a greatly appreciated surprise!

Have a great week!

What a Nice Surprise!

Not long ago Dick found this strange looking thing in the garage when he was looking for something.

All that he could see was the very top of the stem, and when he dug down a little further,
it turned out to be an Amaryllis that had been banished when it failed to bloom.

Well, it made up for that! After a few days in the sunshine, it had two pretty buds which was a very nice surprise.

The pretty flowers lasted for about a week! (And it will soon be time for it to go back to the garage...)

Hope you all are having a nice week; I've not been doing much knitting the past couple days because my hands are sore. Hopefully the soreness will go away soon!

August 14th Is a Special Day!

My Mom and Dick's Dad were each born on August 14th, and though they are no longer with us, we remember them fondly.

In honor of them, this plant burst into bloom today!

And I even finished a project to donate along with a few other hats to KidVantage, a wonderful charity that is nearby and serves kids from birth-12 with things like diapers and school supplies!

An Exciting Weekend and Some Pretty Flowers

Last weekend, the Blue Angels were in town, and we got a glimpse of them on Friday in the parking lot of a nearby shopping center, but on Sunday afternoon we walked up the hill to Somerset, and Dick was able to catch a few pictures of them.

It's much easier to photograph the flowers in our yard though because they stand still!

And so do the ones in vases.

We are expecting company from Minnesota tomorrow. They will leave on Saturday for Port Angeles to take a ferry to Victoria. Then that afternoon we will help Stella celebrate her 10th birthday and, on Sunday I will visit with some former workmates. Looks like a few busy days here! I hope you are enjoying these summer days, too.

Finally a Finish!

It's been kind of busy here! We had a wonderful visit from our oldest grand daughter, and then had some landscaping done in our front yard. Despite the craziness, I actually finished a sock that had been ripped out and then started with a new pattern.  It fought me a bit, but they are done and even match pretty well.

We had a nice time with our sweet grand daughter and took her to see Snoqualmie Falls, and Bainbridge Island.  (On the island, we also visited a new yarn shop called La Mercerie. I behaved myself though and only bought some cute buttons.)We also took quite a few walks together before taking her over to our daughter's house for the rest of her time in Seattle. That night we all walked at Discovery Park and watched a beautiful sunset over Puget Sound.

Not too longer after that, we had some landscaping done and are very happy with the results.

Apparently this lace cap hydrangea approved and showed its approval with this bloom!

Enjoy this first day of a new month.  How did it get to be August already?
