Our Latest Adventure

Before yesterday's 17 hour power outage and Tuesday night's incredible windstorm, we took a drive on the backroads to Snohomish and just off the road we saw a huge flock of snow geese. I just learned that these birds come from Russia and stick around until May!

This is what it looked like, although these  photos were taken near Mount Vernon a couple of years ago.

That time we got to see them leaving the field where they were.

The other thing that happened around here lately, two of our supposed Christmas cactus plants tried to bloom. (One other one bloomed at Thanksgiving.) They are confused, aren't they?

Thanks to yesterday's power outage not much of anything was accomplished here; we didn't even take our usual walk.  We did go for a little drive in the neighborhood to see what other areas were out, and when we got back home everyone's power was back on. Today's paper though said there are still some folks without light/heat. Hope that gets fixed soon!

Not fun to be without power for that long.

Those geese are amazing! The sound is almost overwhelming. I love it. I had no idea they came from Russia.
Spokane clocked 73 mph wind gusts yesterday. We've had so much rain lately, (almost like your part of the state!), that HUGE trees came down and snapped power lines, root balls and all. There are still a lot of people without power. Several of our friends won't be able to come to our zoom Bible Study tonight because they have no power to join in. Surprisingly, we didn't even flicker here at the RV park! Dennis even had the generator all ready to go.
Blessings,
Betsy

You got much better video of those than I did of the ones in Amarillo, Texas, at the end of November. Flock after flock kept flying overhead, for more than 30 minutes, but I could never get a good video of any of them. It was still an amazing, and noisy, experience, though.

How beautiful! I love seeing a big flock of birds in flight. We don't see it very often here. I guess most of our birds are not very sociable. Araignee

What a treat to see the migrating geese! My son in Tacoma said it was the most wind (60mph) they've ever gotten!

I have a friend who lives on Camano and she tells me about the snow geese and the other sea and air life she is watching from her deck.

Huge flocks are impressive to see. Wind has been howling here as well. They pick up speed once they get over the Rockies: Parts of Wyoming had gusts over 100mph - LOTS of toppled semis along the roadside

That's a long power outage - no fun!

I once got to witness the migration of thousands of tundra swans.... it was incredible
