Summer, Where Are You?

Our days are longer and the roses are trying to bloom, but, as you've heard already, the outside temperature still hasn't reached 75 degrees here yet this year, a fact that delights the radio hosts, judging from their constant reminders. We recently planted a new rose tree which is trying valiantly to bloom and which now has weather-related evidence in the form of "black spot".

Lest you think me a complainer, it's true we did have one nice weekend recently when we jumped in the car and headed to Bellingham. You could even see Mount Baker in the distance!

June also marks many passages, including high school graduation. Our neighbor girl, who was less than two when they moved in, is headed to the University of Montana (and blue sky country) in the fall. I think she may need this, come winter.

So here we are at the Summer Solstice. Can summer be far behind? We are tired of running the furnace and temperatures in the fifties!

Great Hat...........

Sorry to hear about the black spot on your rose tree. That is so hard to get rid of.

That is a fabulous hat!!! Love it.

We always had trouble with black spot in the summer. We finally gave up on roses.

I think I read somewhere that spraying with baking soda water helps with black spot problems.

Very cute hat. I imagine hats are required in Montana during the winter. Here I was wearing a wool hat until a couple of weeks ago. We now have sun, but also lots of wind, and as you say, we're not setting any hot weather records either.

Hey Judy! On the other side of the world, we're celebrating today cos days will start to get longer again now and hopefully not TOO cold for our winter ... BRRRR!! Overcast icky day here and I'm curled up with a cold in front of the heater and under a flannel blankie, counting down to OUR summer. Hope the weather warms up for you to enjoy soon. Bear Hugs! KRIS

I would enjoy a little of your cooler weather. We have temp's in the 90's with heat index of 105.

What a beautiful rose. Black spot is the reason I don't do roses -- too much heart break :(

I'll bottle some of our humid heat and send it your way.

We've had warmer temperatures here but not nearly as hot as it usually gets.
I gave up on my roses years ago. They never managed to make it through our winters and I always ended up replanting.

That rose is lovely, even with its black spot!

Darling hat! I've been thinking about moving to Montana...the blue sky thing...All that snow would be ok, too...better than the boring drizzle and grayness here.

I don't mean to make you envious, but I read this morning that we've had 13 or 15 straight days of 90+, with yesterday being 98. Do you know how grand 75 sounds? It was 78 when I first took out Pixie this morning... What a cute boggin for the graduate. Know she'll love it! And a beautiful photo of the mountain. Good wishes for your roses!

The rose is gorgeous. I can't grow them here as the elk and deer can smell them a mile off. Love the hat.Your talent amazes me. I think summer is almost here. I hope I hope I hope! The pile is slowly getting smaller. The garden seems to be getting bigger. Never ends. I just want to be that lady in a white lace dress sipping tea in a fabulous garden full of flowers (that have not beed eatten by the elk)! LOL

Beautiful rose, sorry about the black spot. You haver probably surfed looking for ideas, if not this has some information. http://www.rosemagazine.com/articles02/pages/blackspot.asp

We have had several days over the last week hitting 90. We need the rain so bad; everything turning brown.
Adorable hat too, perfect for MT winters.
