This was in downtown Seattle near Pioneer Square.
Suzanne Tidwell, a local fiber artist, beautified these abandoned stumps in Sammamish. This was the spring version.
These trees in a Kirkland park wore their "sweaters" for quite a while. I think these huge pieces were done on a knitting machine.
A yarnie side trip to Darn. Knit. Anyway. in Stillwater, MN, during a family reunion added to my yarnbombing collection. If you Google "yarnbombing," you'll see lots of other examples from other cities.
Meanwhile, back in Washinton, this was featured in a local shopping center and then, according to Tidwell's blog, moved to a museum.
We haven't seen any more lately but probably we haven't looked carefully. How about you? Have you seen evidence of "yarn bombing" in your town? Incidentally, I'm not crazy about that term, but I've also seen "yarn guerillas" which seems worse. I'd much prefer "yarn art"! I'll bet these projects, however they're done, made a serious dent in someone's stash! Check out Patchwork Times for other knitters' projects.

LOVE these photos! I agree. "Yarn Art" sounds much better. :-)
Your yarn art pics are awesome! I would love to see those up close...we have not had any of those around our area...
Awesome pictures! I have never seen anything like that around here...but I'd love too! have a wonderful day!!
I never heard of it! In my part of the south, the knitters must be a little slow on the uptake. Conservative, anyway. =)
Judy,that's a wonderful sight!!
Here in Germany,I've seen it ,too!
A very nice idea to make the world colourful!
Greetings,Ulla
I haven't seen any in my area, but I'm sure it has happened somewhere.
Wow! They are huge! Imagine all that knitting! I'm guessing that you are right and they were done on a machine.
I don't think I'll see any public yarn installations here in Orlando. I got serious STINK EYE from the police when I posed my scarf on a fire hydrant. (You would have thought I was damaging it. SHEESH!)
now that is a lot of yarn and all I see is happy trees snuggled in warmth!
Hello Judy, I really love all your Yarn bombing fiber photos. I especially love the Spring ones. They are so cheery looking. I have once seen yarn bombing at a local Art building. Happy Spring Hugs Judy
I've never seen a yarn bombing, but those tree sweaters are impressive! This type of yarn art is so cheerful, whimsical, and surely lifts the spirits!
Wow , That's a lot of yarn. I've never seen one in person
never heard of such a thing next fall I should knit sweater for my young trees instead of wrapping them in paper!
Love, love, LOVE the yarn-bombing! I have a cousin who participated in a knit-the-bridge thing, but of course I can't remember where the bridge was.
I wonder if I stood very still and made like a tree if someone would "yarn art" me. LOL They are beautiful. Do they announce when and where as I have yet to see them.???
Woo Hoo! Look at all that yarn beauty, I love each and every picture, I can only imagine how beautiful it was in person.
Thank you for mentioning me.
Hugs to you,
Meredith
How fun! I love looking at the yarn art but I'm too selfish and would never knit to decorate a tree. ;) I'd rather make a new sweater or something....
The yarn colored trees are Awesome!! I am so in need of bright colors since things here are so drab, dirty and brown. What fun! Thanks for sharing.
Wow - those are so cool! I haven't seen anything like that around here, but then Nashville is nothing like Seattle for artistic creativity LOL!!!
