This was an interesting project! It's made from a silk yarn by LoominEssence. The pattern says that upon completion it should be professionally pressed to flatten the silk nubs. I had to do a bit of convincing at the dry cleaner, but they did it, and the end result is rather like a very airy fabric. Catherine liked it and plans to wear it next week. Who could ask for more than that?

Hi Judy, Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I posted a 3-part tutorial on sewing a fiber shawl in December 2007, if you are interested.

I have enjoyed reading through your blog and admiring your beautiful knitting and embroidery.
Hi Judy, thanks for visiting my blog too, I've posted the socks in progress for you. I love the color of this shawl, and wish it was possible to see it before and after the professional pressing. I was wondering if the home style presses would work (not an iron, but the larger ones with no steam holes). Was it knit from side to side?
